Dirty Bird with Owen Fitzgerald

SUNDAY, MAY 8 | 6PM | ON THE LAWN | $15-20

Dirty Bird hails from the concrete woodlands of New York City, and consists of Christie Belanger, Melissa Escudero, Natasha Thweatt, Nick Katz, Eli Greenhoe and Blake Suben. With roots going back to New York’s renowned arts school LaGuardia High School, the members of Dirty Bird reconnected in 2016, and in true New York style bring a wide variety of musical backgrounds—ranging from jazz to bluegrass to classical—together in one vibrant and wholly original folk sound.

Since forming, the band has presented powerful performances to venues including Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, Mass MoCa and Radio Bean, and the Northside Music Festival. Dirty Bird brings both new and long-devoted audiences intimate, poetic lyrics charged by three-part harmony and lively, distinctive arrangements. Soulful, harmonious, and ever-evolving, Dirty Bird’s music redefines what it means to be a folk band.

Sofia Talvik - Paws of a Bear - The Tour

Friday, April 22, 2022 | 8pm | Music Building | $20

Music at Down Yonder Farm is excited to welcome international musical artist Sofia Talvik for an intimate, limited-seating show in our legendary Music Building. This is an indoor, seated show. Proof of vaccination and masks will be required for entry. (See ticket link for more information.)

Americana / Folk with Swedish Roots | Sofia Talvik is a rare artist and an avid storyteller with a voice comparable to giants like Joni Mitchell, or as the Folk/Americana Magazine NoDepression said it ”A singer/songwriter who is able to evoke the essence of Laurel Canyon circa the ‘60s as expressed in the work of Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Buffy Sainte-Marie and others who were able to paint beautiful tapestries from words and music.”.

Prepare yourself for an unique and intimate evening, not unlike the 70's coffeehouses and speakeasy's. You will be up close and personal with a world class act that has played big festivals like Lollapalooza and SxSW and opened for artists like Maria McKee and David Duchovny (X-files, Californication). It is in this kind of setting where she can casually joke and communicate with the audience that her strength as a performer shines the most.

Palmyra with Emma Geiger

SUNDAY, MAY 15 | 5PM | ON THE LAWN | $20

Drawing from the sounds of Appalachia and Midwestern Americana, Palmyra captures the collective spirit of three Virginia natives, Manoa (he/him), Teddy (he/him), and Sasha (they/them). With an ever-expanding sonic palette, Palmyra’s live set explores the fusion of traditional folk string instruments, three part harmonies and foot percussion. The burgeoning trio sounds like a distant cousin of the progressive folk band, Punch Brothers, mixed with elements of Fleet Foxes or the Avett Brothers. Palmyra’s songs are intimate and contemplative, with three-part vocal arrangements that allow them to create the illusion of a full, larger-than-three ensemble. Palmyra met in the Shenandoah Valley, which is incredibly apparent through their stirring craftsmanship and dedication to create a folk-driven, innovative experience through their live performances.

Emma Geiger is a singer-songwriter based in Durham, North Carolina. Her first EP, Haven, comes out on April 1. Check out her single, also titled Haven, on Spotify or Bandcamp.
